Performance of Ghanaian players abroad-

Ghanaian players got involved in action over the weekend just before the international break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. And, Milovan Rajevac’s 27 foreign-based Black Stars players were involved in action for their clubs.

GOALKEEPERS

Lawrence Ati-Zigi was in between the sticks for St Gallen when they were mauled 5-2 by Grasshoppers in the Swiss Super League. The 24-year-old has now conceded 14 goals in his last 4 games for Gallen. Elsewhere in the English League Two, newly-invited goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot was in action for Swindon Town when they registered a 3-1 away win over Bristol Rovers.

DEFENDERS

Right-back Andrew Yiadom lasted 79 minutes for Reading in their 1-0 away win over Cardiff City. Meanwhile, his Ghanaian compatriot Abdul Baba Rahman lasted 90 minutes for the victors. Left-back Gideon Mensah was introduced on the 69th minute by Bordeaux in their 3-0 away loss at the Stade Louis II. Defender Daniel Amartey warmed the bench for Leicester City who threw away their lead to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace. Center-back Joseph Aidoo watched from the Celta de Vigo when they slipped to a 1-0 loss at Elche. Defender Jonathan Mensah scored the insurance goal for Columbus Crew when they defeated Mexican side Cruz Azul 2-0 in the NORTH & CENTRAL AMERICA: Campeones Cup – Final. Alexander Djiku lasted the entire period of the game for Strasbourg in their 1-1 away draw with Montpellier.

MIDFIELDERS

Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw by Brighton on Saturday and Thomas Partey played the full 90 minutes for the Gunners. Iddrisu Baba Mohammed scored the solitary goal for Real Mallorca in their 1-0 home win over Levante in the La Liga on Saturday. Alfred Duncan lasted 76 minutes for Fiorentina in their 2-1 home loss to leaders Napoli. Emmanuel Lomotey wasn’t in the Amiens squad for their 0-0 home draw with Toulouse. The Chinese Super League is not in session so there was no action for Wakaso Mubarak. Midfielder Kudus Mohammed warmed the bench for Ajax Amsterdam when they lost 1-0 to FC Utrecht. Majeed Ashimeru played ONLY 7 minutes for Anderlecht when they drew 1-1 with Club Brugge. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh assisted the opening goal for St Pauli when they defeated Dynamo Dresden 3-0. The Accra-born has now assisted 6 goals and scored twice in 9 games in the Bundesliga II.

FORWARDS

Andre Ayew scored for the 4th game in a row for Al-Sadd in the Qatari Star League. He was on target on Saturday when Xavi Hernandez’s side won 4-0 against Al Arabi. Kamaldeen Sulemana set up the opening goal for Stade Rennais when they beat PSG 2-0 on Sunday. Attacker Tariq Fosu Henry failed to make the Brentford matchday squad for their impressive 2-1 away win over West Ham United. Striker Joel Fameyeh registered his 9th goal in 13 games for Orenburg in the Russian second-tier league. Yaw Yeboah lasted 86 minutes for Wisla Krakow who lost 1-0 at Piast Gliwice. Winger Samuel Owusu played 56 minutes for Al Feiha when they lost 2-1 at Al-Shabab. Jordan Ayew lasted 56 minutes for Crystal Palace who drew 2-2 with Leicester City. Caleb Ekuban was in action for 35 minutes for Genoa who were beaten 1-0 by Salernitana. Emmanuel Gyasi lasted 90 minutes for Spezia in their 4-0 away loss to Verona. Benjamin Tetteh fired blank as he lasted the entire period of the game for Yeni Malatyaspor in their 2-0 home loss to Hatayspor.
