Asamoah Gyan wants to return to the Ghana Black Stars

The former Ghana Black Stars captain and the all time top scorer for the national team has reiterated his desire to play for the four time AFCON winners.

Ghana striker, Asamoah Gyan has said he is working to regain his fitness as he hopes to return to the senior national team, the Black Stars.

The former Sunderland and Kayserispor striker returned to the Ghana top-flight to revive his career but failed to glitter due to injuries.

Gyan speaking in an interview admitted he failed to glitter in the local scene due to injuries but he remains confident of regaining his form as he hopes to return to the Black Stars ahead of the 2021 Afcon.

“I have not retired from football,” the country’s all-time top goalscorer told Kumasi based Kessben FM.

“There were some injuries last season but I am not done playing football. I can wake up one day and announce my retirement from football but at the moment, I am active.

“People will criticize me but I am only hoping to get back to my normal form and weight but if I am not able to regain my form, then I will call it off but at the moment, I am working on myself to lose my weight.

“I returned to Legon Cities and you could clearly see that things did not go as planned because I have putting on weight but I am giving myself another season and I trust I will be back to my form and if I am on my form, I don’t think I will be overlooked but for retirement, not now.”

Gyan also reiterated that he hopes Ghana get a good draw for the 2021 Afcon.

“I think we have to be hopeful because this is Afcon and you could be in any country but as a Ghanaian, I only hope we get a good group,” he added.

Asamoah Gyan will be part of the African legends that will do the 2021 Afcon draw in Cameroon.
