MATCH REVIEW – KOTOKO BOW OUT OF CAFCC CAMPAIGN

Asante Kotoko ended another fruitless Africa Venture after Algerian side ES Setif eliminated them from the CAF confederation cup with a 2-1 aggregate over two legs.

The porcupines maintained focus in the early minutes of the game, keeping their momentum to in the game to prevent the Algerians from causing more pains to their side.

Series of saves from goalkeeper Razak Abalora kept the porcupines in a game that was highly dominated by Setif in the first half of the game.

Kotoko, Maintaining virtually the same squad that lost to the Algerians week ago attacked their host through intermitent counter attacks, but the last balls to Kwame Poku were too strong for the forward.

Having kept their host from scoring in the first half, Coach Johnson Smith and his technical set up opened up in the second half, pushing Emmanuel Gyamfi, and Latif Anabila more into attack, but Setif knew the threat posed by the visiting team, and therefore kept some men deep into defence to curtail any havoc.

With Fabio Gama injured in the 70th minute, Johnson Smith made a forced substitution with the returning Kwame Adom Frimpong to maintain a balance in attack.

Needing 2 goals to make the group stage of the competition, Johnson Smith threw in more attacking minded players with Patrick Asmah for Naby Keita, but it did no good to the Kumasi based club, who had to settle for a 0-0 game in the city of setif, ending another fruitless venture in Africa.
