ITALIAN SERIA A PREVIEW – ATLANTA V NAPOLI

Napoli will be aiming to exact revenge on Atalanta when the two teams meet in a 2020-21 Serie A match in Bergamo on Sunday evening.

La Dea head into the fixture on the back of a 1-0 win over Cagliari. Luis Muriel scored a 90th minute winner for the visitors in Sardinia as they duly kept pace with Napoli.

“The important thing for us is to keep growing. The club made great investments, our finances are very positive in a world where clubs are full of debt, so I don’t know what more we could aim for,” said Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

“We dropped a few points in Serie A this season, but so did everyone.”

Napoli also returned to winning ways this past weekend with a morale-boosting 1-0 win over defending champions Juventus. Head coach Gennaro Gattuso was reportedly in danger of receiving the sack if his team lost in Naples, but instead Gli Azzurri claimed a vital win.

“I never had doubts on this squad, otherwise I would’ve picked up my things and gone home,” said Gattuso whose team sit fifth, level on 40 points with Atalanta and 10 points behind the league leaders.

“You can’t get anywhere without the faith of the players. I always felt they were ready to do what I asked and that’s what matters.

Napoli beat Atalanta 4-1 at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in the reverse league fixture earlier this season, but missed out on a place in the Coppa Italia final at the hands of the Bergamo club (losing 3-1 on aggregate). Hirving Lozano has scored three goals in his last three matches against Atalanta.
