2021 CAF AFCON U-20; CAF provides important rules and regulations for end of group stages

With the group stage of the ongoing Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Mauritania 2021 reaching its final matchday, here are some important regulations of the tournament.

Equality of Points

Article 60

“60.1 In case of points equality between two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be ranked according to the following criteria in the order listed below:

•       60.1.1 The highest number of points obtained in the match between the two concerned teams;

•       60.1.2 The goal difference in all group matches;

•       60.1.3 The highest number of goals scored in the whole group matches;

•       60.1.4 A drawing of lots conducted by the Organizing Committee.

60.2 In case of equality between more than two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be ranked according to the following criteria in the order listed below:

•       60.2.1. The greatest number of points obtained in the matches between the concerned teams;

•       60.2.2. The best goal difference in the matches between the concerned teams;

•       60.2.3. The greatest number of goals scored in the matches between the concerned teams;  

•       60.2.4. If after applying criteria 60.2.1 to 60.2.3, two teams are still equal, 60.2.1 to 60.2.3. criteria are again applied to matches played between the two teams in question to determine the final ranking of the two teams. If this procedure does not allow classifying them, the criteria listed from 60.2.5 to 60.2.7 are applied in the indicated order;

•       60.2.5. The goals difference in all group matches;

•       60.2.6. The highest number of goals scored in all group matches.

•       60.2.7. A drawing of lots conducted by the Organizing Committee.”

– Number of points.

– Goal difference in all group matches.

– Highest number of goals scored in all group matches.

– Drawing lots by the Organizing Committee

Sanction of players

Article 29.2

At the end of the first phase of the qualifying and Final Tournament (group matches), all cautions received shall be cancelled for the rest of the competition. Nevertheless, a player having collected two yellow cards will sustain the one match suspension.
