AFCON U-20: Ghana lockhorns with Tanzania today in group opener

The Black Satellites of Ghana will square off against Tanzania in a Group C opener of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations been held in Mauritania.

The team left Ghana on Saturday with a delegation made up of 26 players, nine technical team members, and management committee members on board an Airforce plane.

Coach Karim Zito named a 26-man squad for the tournament and has been training with the team ahead of their opening game today.

Speaking ahead of Ghana’s game against Tanzania, Karim Zito stated their ultimate target is to win the trophy for the country.

“I can’t tell you much about Tanzania, I don’t know them, I don’t know whether they know us but we are in here to face anybody. Even if I know you or I don’t know you, at the end of the day we are going to meet on the field of play and there it is our work to read the game and then see exactly what we have to bring” he said at the pre-match presser.

“Seriously, it is a big opportunity for us if we are able to win the first game because the first game gives you the motivation to play the games ahead. I think during the WAFU B we were able to beat Nigeria and that carried us to the semifinals so playing Tanzania, I won’t say is a must-win but winning is our first motto before meeting the rest”.

“We didn’t qualify for the last edition but this time around we were champions from our zone so we are here to make amends by trying to go for the ultimate or fighting for the ultimate is the right mind we brought to Mauritania” He concluded.

The Black Satellites will face Tanzania in their opening match on Tuesday, February 16 before squaring off with Morocco and Gambia in subsequent group matches.
