UMAR BASHIRU NOT HAPPY AFTER COACH CK AKUNNOR FAILED TO GIVE HIM A BLACK STARS CALL UP

Karela United midfield dynamo Umar Bashiru who was snubbed in CK Akunnor’s provisional 32 man squad spoke about his exclusion in the squad which in his words said “Everything happens for a reason”.


The 23 year old put on an amazing display as his side snatched the three points on the road in their clash against Ebusua Dwarfs on Sunday. He bossed the game from midfield for his side and scored the opening goal for Karela United.


The former WAFA ballplaying midfielder joined Karela United this term after a short spell at Kumasi Asante Kotoko. He joined the Porcupine Warriors in the 2018-19 season but parted ways with the club on mutual terms in October2019. He subsequently joined Karela United on a free transfer prior to the commencement of this season top-flight contest.

Umar Basiru who is rated as one of the best midfielders in the 2020/21 GPL season has in his awards cabinet 3 man of the match awards, a goal and an assist in the first 14 games of the Ghana Premier league campaign.

In an interview with the media after Karela United 2-1 win over Abusua Dwarfs at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday, Umar Basiru explained how disappointed he felt when he missed out in the CK Akunnor’s 32 Provisional Man squad to play the CAF AFCON qualifiers.

“It was sad when I saw the list, I asked if maybe I didn’t play to the tune of the coach. But it also gave me a different energy to work extra hard and today I scored a goal which is more important to the team and myself,” he said.

“We all know what I’m capable of doing on the pitch, I don’t need to out speak, but I know I’m good at my craft which is very important. My focus is to continue playing at this level and the goal is to win the league with Karela United this season. That’s the goal and we must achieve it with team work and dedication of course. Everything happens for a reason and I must keep working hard to get to my success destination,” Umar concluded.
