David Alaba tests positive for coronavirus.
Real Madrid have confirmed that David Alaba has tested positive for coronavirus.
Alaba only signed for the club this summer after his Bayern Munich contract expired. During his time with Die Roten, the Austrian made just shy of 450 appearances in all competitions winning a host of silverware along the way. This included two Champions Leagues, 10 Bundesliga titles and several other domestic and continental honours.
When it became clear he would be leaving Bavaria at the end of the season, many clubs from across Europe were interested. However, Alaba only ever had eyes for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid still have plenty of time until their La Liga curtain raiser against Alaves on Saturday 14 August, a game that Alaba should be available for barring any further complications.
Los Blancos will need their new arrival fit and firing as well as they look particularly weak at the back, following the departures of starting centre-backs Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. This leaves Ancelotti with Alaba, Eder Militao, Nacho and Jesus Vallejo to choose from for the upcoming season.
Due to financial uncertainty they do not seem likely to add to their squad before the close of the transfer window either. Meanwhile, their La Liga rivals have been strengthening their ranks. Barcelona have made several additions and champions Atletico Madrid have signed Copa America winner Rodrigo de Paul.
