2021 GPL Matchday 20 Preview: King Faisal aim to shock AshantiGold SC at home
King Faisal will have the opportunity to increase their survival chances when they come up against AshantiGold SC in a regional derby at the Ohene Ameyaw Park at Techiman.
The Miners annihilated the Insha Allah boys 5-1 when they last met in the first round of the League at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
The four-goal margin recorded by the Miners is their biggest win of the season thus far with King Faisal also recording their worse defeat in the campaign. AshantiGold will come into the game with loads of confidence after recording a 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak in week 19.
They have improved their goalkeeping department with the acquisition of Kofi Mensah – a seasoned campaigner who formerly played for Tema Youth, Ebusua Dwarfs and Karela United FC.
The former Black Starlets shot stopper is making waves in Obuasi following two brilliant displays against Karela United and Hearts of Oak. Kofi Mensah has saved two penalties since his inclusion in the AshantiGold set up – against Diawusie Taylor (Karela United) and Victor Aidoo (Hearts of Oak).
Amos Addai led by example after scoring a last gasp goal against Hearts of Oak on Saturday. Frank Akoto, Osei Agyemang, Gordon Kusi Brooklyn, David Abagna, Yaw Annor and Eric Esso are players with the impetus to add to the troubles of King Faisal.
King Faisal on the other hand, will aim to bounce back to winning ways after falling 3-1 to Aduana FC on match day 19. They sit in 17th place in the League table; two points above bottom club Inter Allies and are in desperate need of points to save their campaign.
They have brought in experience but have yet to impact positively on their results. Latif Salifu, Eric Donkor, Paul Aidoo, Ibrahim Danlad and Samudeen Ibrahim are expected to use their experience to save them from relegation. AshantiGold lie 9th in the league table with 27 points whiles King Faisal are 17th with 18 points.
