Zambian defender Shemmy Mayembe has joined the Ukrainian Premier League side FC Minai, The club has confirmed in a post on their official website and social media pages.

The former Zesco United player becomes the first player from Zambia to join the Mynai based side and he is the only player from Africa currently in the Vasyl Kobin coached outfit.

“The Zambian has been training with the team for a long time and even took part in friendly matches with Vorskla before the start of the UPL. We are waiting for Shemmy’s debut in the UPL and we wish him success in our club! Good luck, Shemmy!”

The 22-year-old is one of the U-20 national team players who conquered Africa in 2017 when they won the U-20 AFCON tournament and went on to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Mayembe may make his competitive debut on Sunday when Minai travels to Kyiv to face Olimpik Donetsk at the Stadion Dynamo im. Valery Lobanovsky at 13:00
