According to reports from the Spanish media, Former Barcelona assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzue has been diagnosed with  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which is also referred to as the Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Unzue underwent a series of tests after experiencing several symptoms which then revealed the former goalkeeper’s condition which has no known cure.

The 53-year old is set confirm the news on Thursday with a press conference scheduled at 13:00.

The Spaniard intends to create awareness of the disease  which has affected quite a number of Athletes.

Unzue won two Spanish La liga trophies and a Champions League with Barcelona as Luis Enrique’s assistant before moving to Celta Vigo and then to Girona as head coach.
