The stadium, which will be sited at Borteyman in the Greater Accra Region and will cost an estimated $200 million, will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
A 9-member Local Organizing Committee was yesterday inaugurated at the Jubilee House to oversee the country’s organization of the multi-sport games in 2023.
The committee is chaired by veteran journalist and lecturer, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare and has Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) president Ben Nunoo Mensah, Reks Brobbey, an Olympian, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, adviser to the Minister of Youth & Sport, Ms. Eva Okyere, a legal practitioner, Dan Kweku Yeboah as members.

They were sworn in at the Jubilee House on Monday where the President of Ghana, HE Nana Akufo-Addo urged them to handle the successful hosting and staging of the 13th African Games, the Olympic Games of Africa in Ghana.
“Presently, none of the sports stadia in Ghana meets the required standard for continental games. It is thus necessary to construct appropriate sports facilities in the country that will be able to host the 25 sporting disciplines from the African Games.
“I’m happy to that land has been secured to construct the necessary facilities for the games and the procurement process to engage the contractor is ongoing,” President Akufo-Addo said during the inauguration of the LOC.
“The facilities to be constructed include a 50,000 capacity Olympic stadium complex, multi-purpose sports halls for all indoor sports, aquatic centers for swimming and tennis courts,” he said.
The President further stated that the facility will be converted into a University for Sports and Development after the successful hosting of the games.
The 13th edition of the Africa Games, formerly known as the All African Games would involve 54 participating countries and 25 sporting disciplines.
The image of Ghana is marketed as the most preferred sports event destination in Africa as Ghana prepares to host and organize the 13th edition of the Africa Games.
It is seen as an exciting period ahead for sports men and women and media practitioners in Ghana.
